Manu Hagmann was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1980. He hails from a musical family where he began playing at the age of 8. Manu taught himself the double bass and participated in numerous musical projects before beginning his professional curriculum at the Bern University of the Arts jazz department.
He has always been extremely active in the music scene – for instance he performed with his first rock group for almost 10 years. Manu easily moves between “traditional jazz” and “current music”, his two main musical roots. He places great importance on the double bass’ rhythmic potential and timbre. He explores technics and alternative horizons while still respecting its nature and primary role. His audio/technical know-how has enabled him to develop a rich electroacoustic vocabulary.
Manu Hagmann has performed on more than 20 CDs. He has played in big bands with Tom Harrell, Rosario Giuliani and New York Voices, to mention a few. Other than recent ORIOXY international tours, he has played the majority of Swiss jazz clubs and festivals with the Florian Favre Trio.
